Cllr Lee Bates, the former Tamworth Mayor has pledged more than £3,000 to a new charity fund which will support groups and organisations in the town. During Councillor Lee Bates’ year in chains, £6,158.45 was raised, with £3,000 going to his principal charity Children in Crisis. The remaining £3,158.45 is being donated to “Tamworth Forever Fund”, which is supported by the Herald and Staffordshire Community Foundation – who will administer the new fund.
Cllr Lee Bates said:
“I would like to thank the people of Tamworth for their overwhelming generosity raising such an incredible amount for my principal charity Children in Crisis, plus being able to kick start the New Tamworth Forever Fund, which will benefit so many in the years ahead. The new fund will be a pot of money that will eventually benefit Tamworth groups and organisations year on year, with a minimum of five per cent interest being paid out. I am 100 per cent behind the new Tamworth Forever Fund. And I look forward to advocating the benefits it will bring to our communities.”
He continued:
“We live in a time where traditional funding streams to support community work are either coming to an end or getting smaller, and yet the competition is getting greater as more and more groups apply to continue their valuable work in the Tamworth community. This fund won’t be reliant on any taxpayer funding, it will be self-reliant and the total amount that is paid out will only increase. So as the fund grows and as it starts paying out to Tamworth organisations, it will be a win-win for our communities.”
